Beautiful route through cool chestnut woods and stretches of the ridge of the mountain “for Pisans to see Lucca do not ponno” as quoted by Dante in Hell (a plaque at the Passo di Dante recalls the quote).
Interesting excursion points are the Hermitage of Rupe Cava and the Towers and Castle of Ripafratta.
