Birdwatching
Scarlino swamp
The coastal marsh area is largely freshwater (with a prevalence of reeds), but with a significant brackish portion, where rushes and salicorns prevail. These are the favorable environments for the stopping, wintering and nesting of the avifauna in particular for the conservation of some now rare and threatened nesting species: the bittern (Botaurus stellaris), the marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus) and the chestnut forapail (Acrocephalus melanopogon) ). Also reported the presence of the marten (Martes martes). All without forgetting that we are here where once stood the Portus Scabris of the Roman era and beyond. If you want to know more about this aspect, a visit to the MAPS Museum is highly recommended from where this journey begins
