Useful hints for Selfguided Activities

1. When alone, leave a message to somebody so they would know where you are going

Smartphone and GPS, along with this APP, will guide you during the excursions. Just remember that this is all on based on electronic devices, who might suddenly suffer from accidental misfunctioning, loss, battery decharges: leave a message for somebody about when and where you’re going. Have always a paper map with you. Leave early- be back early!

2. Proper equipment

Have always proper equipment with you ( if biking, review your bike before you use it: tyres, breaks, stems). Wear comfortable and appropriate shoes with good socks.  Have enough water and food (bars, dried fruits). Emergency kit is fundamental; headlamp, rain gear, and sunglasses (along with a woolen cap, or a cap)  If biking have a repair-kit and always wear your helmet on!

3. Cheack-Out weather forecasts

Check Out weather forecasts before you leave. ( Regional service for Tuscany: www.lamma.rete.toscana.it  ) Do not take the risk in case of bad weather: excursions can wait! There’s more to do out there (visit, taste, explore..)

4. Know how to behave in case of Rescue request

Know emergency number “118” for Tuscany. If needed: try to keep calm when calling. You’ll be attended by professionals who need to ask you several details before they could come: listen carefully to their questions and answer sharply. It is important to stay warm during the time you wait for rescue. Do not move, unless forced, from the area you called from In case of Helicopter rescue to you or some companion, try to collect and secure loose material around ( in order to prevent them interfering with rotators)
